The full conversion of a historic stone barn near Abergavenny, carried out with Monmouthshire Heritage and Morgan Horowskyj Architects, using traditional breathable materials and a ground source heat pump.
Because of the building’s significance, an archaeologist was on site throughout the excavation and dismantling stages to oversee the work.
Two new roofs were built in line with heritage guidelines, and a single-storey extension was added to make room for another bedroom. Traditional, breathable materials were used throughout, including lime plaster and limecrete floors, so the building keeps its original character while meeting modern standards.
To finish, we installed a ground source heat pump that runs underfloor heating through the whole building.
